Here we are in August. It's the end of the summer and I honestly can't believe I've been doing this for a whole season. My hope is that I've given you some ideas to work with in your closet, and shown you that trends can be your friend. In honor of summer's last hurrah, I've put together a little retrospective of the seasons "best" looks. "Best" is in quotations because obviously it's subjective. So take my advice with a grain (or chunk) of salt, and be true to your stylish self. As a special bonus, everything in the article is $170 or less (with most things clocking in at under $100). Think of it as a chance to get more bang for your buck, and save the extra cash for your upcoming fall splurges.
BEST LOOK TO PERMANENTLY RETIRE -- SEQUINS & OTHER EMBELLISHMENTS
At first it was great. So many pretty sparkly things, so many creative ways to wear them. And as the trend grew so did the options, especially those available at affordable price points. While there's no denying they've had a good run, some days I feel like I need an extra pair of shades to combat all the "bling" I've seen this season. And because all good things must come to end, I think it's time we officially retire our spangles, at least until the holiday season. BEST LOOK TO PUT ON A TEMPORARY HIATUS -- TIERED SKIRTS
They're ubiquitous for a reason. And it's always nice to see a trend that works on virtually every body type, especially after last season's minis that were best left to pre-teens and "working" girls. But as the weather cools, it's time to put these flirty little numbers away - not forever, but just until next year. To tide you over, here are two more looks, one perfect for that end of summer cook-out, and one transitional work look for when there's a little chill in the air.
BEST TREND THAT'S REALLY NOT A TREND ANYMORE -- BLAZERS
Whoever decided to rescue blazers from the boardroom deserves a big fat kiss. At this point, if you don't have at least one fitted blazer in your closet, you're really doing yourself a disservice (and I say that about very few things). There's no easier way to pull a look together in a business casual environment. Ruffly skirt that's a tad too precious? Risque cami that doesn't leave much to the imagination? A great blazer has got you covered, literally.
Bermudas have come a long way. Three summers ago they were strictly reserved for surf boarders, and people who had a bizare fascination with covering as much leg as possible while still wearing shorts. Last summer they were a blip on the fashion radar that only the most avant garde dared try. This summer...well, they're everywhere. But shorter days don't mean longer pants - loads of designers are offering variations on this theme that are perfect for fall. Pair bermudas with kitten heels for an office friendly look, or if you're feeling bold, shorts with boots is a fresh, unexpected alternative.

BEST TREND TO TAKE YOUR OUTFIT FROM BLAH TO BLAZING -- TIE: TOUGH BOOTS & FUNKY BELTS
Maybe it's the remnants of this summer's boho madness, maybe it's my secret deep-rooted desire to run off and join the rodeo, or maybe it's just the fact that I'm a Libra and can't make up my mind to save my life. Whatever it is, I've got boots and belts on the brain. Regardless of whether your style is classic or cutting edge, a belt or some funky boots add special flair to even the most the routine outfit. So if you only invest in one trend this season (though I'm definitely going to add both), these two items are sure to add unlimited style to your wardrobe.

BEST TREND THAT'S TECHNICALLY "OVER" BUT WE STILL LOVE ANYWAY -- METALLICS
Ah metallics... Like embellishments, this trend is probably on its last leg, but you know what - I don't care. I write about fashion, it's my right to be fickle. While the pendulum is definitely swinging away from the super duper shiny golds and silvers of the past two seasons and towards more muted and matte tones, there are still plenty of ways to incorporate one or two metallic accessories. And for a night on the town, nothing completes a look better than a well placed metallic accent
They're back, and by next summer they'll probably be all over the place. But this time around, skip the silky fabrics and heels in favor of more casual look. Slouchy cargos and a feminine top are a match made in heaven.
