Mid February = mid winter. Are the blizzards and freezing temperatures getting to you yet? Tired of being holed up inside? Having a hard time remembering what the sun’s warmth feels like on your face? If you answered yes to any of these questions, baby – you may have the winter blues… Fret not, because this week’s stitch is just what the doctor ordered to bring spring a little early and get you through the last leg of winter.
As tacky as these birds look, they're actually anything but. Based on a University of Tokyo professor's hand sculpted models of birds, they are fitted with microchips that enable them to twitch and chirp in response to environmental movement and light conditions. Plus, the birds' songs are taken from recordings produced by the Cornell Lab of Ornithology. Fake doesn't get any more real. And they won't poop on the furniture. Also a great gift for someone who wants a pet but can't keep a plant alive.
A heady combination of pear, green hyacinth, lily of the valley, and black currant leaf will send your senses straight to a spring meadow.
Extra tip: If you use heated rollers, just before you remove the cooled rollers, spritz some perfume on your hair. Remove rollers and style as you normally would. The perfume will not evaporate as quickly on hair as it will on warm skin -- and everytime you move, your hair will emit a hint of scent. You'll have people stopping you to ask "...is that your hair that smells so good?"
Some of our toughest wardrobe dilemmas involve seasonal transition dressing. Light sweaters, layers, and softer fabrics will lighten your winter wardrobe (try wearing the chiffon skirt with tights, boots and a chunky sweater right now - lighten the footwear and wear the silk cardigan and tee when the mercury starts to rise.)
